Students completing the FAFSA for the 2025-2026 school year should be aware of important updates. Read below for details.
What is the FAFSA?
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is a form that collects demographic and financial information to determine your financial need for college.
Why is the FAFSA needed in my THCF General Application for scholarships?
THCF uses the report that is issued to you once your FAFSA application has been submitted and processed, called the FAFSA Submission Summary, in assessing the financial need of our scholarship applicants for those scholarships that consider financial need.
**Important Update for the 2025-2026 Application Season Regarding the FAFSA:
THCF will accept any of the following forms of FAFSA documentation in the General Application for 2025-2026:
- FAFSA Submission Summary (the report that students receive once their FAFSA has been processed)
- FAFSA submission confirmation email showing their estimated Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Results of the Federal Student Aid Estimator
FAFSA timeline changes for 2025-2026 Academic Year
The federal government is again updating the FAFSA for the 2025-2026 school year. The FAFSA will be available widely by December 1, 2024. It is normally available in October each year but will only be available to select applicants from October 1 - December 1, 2024.
How does the FAFSA timeline change affect my THCF General Application for scholarships?
The General Application will be available beginning December 2, 2024, and will be due February 14, 2025, including all essays, letters of recommendation, and other requirements specific to scholarships you may be matched with through the General Application.
