This scholarship was established by William R. Gann to support and encourage students pursuing degrees and careers in music and music education. Though Mr. Gann’s career path extended into other fields including counseling, academic leadership, and genealogical research, he majored in music theory and acknowledges the importance his musical education and teachers played in his success. It is Mr. Gann’s hope to support the education of other musicians and music teachers.
Eligibility:
- Must be a graduating high school senior or past graduate from any high school in Jackson County, MO or Lafayette County, MO.
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in music or music education (if no music applications are received, nursing majors may be considered);
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Amount:
Up to $1,000 per academic year.
Renewable:
Yes, this scholarship can be renewed for three additional years of funding if the student continues to meet the criteria for the scholarship. A renewal application must be submitted with proof of continuing college enrollment and a minimum college cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Deadline:
The General Application will be opened December 15 and will be due (including any additional requirements for scholarships you may be matched with) April 1.
Please note that the general application requires transcripts showing grades from Fall Semester 2023. Any applications submitted with transcripts omitting Fall Semester 2023 will not be considered.
Requirements:
- Essay: Please submit an essay of approximately 500 words detailing your goals and aspirations for utilizing your music degree. If you are a music education major, please include details about your interest in education.
- Letter of Recommendation: Please submit a letter of recommendation from a music teacher (either from school or private lessons) who can attest to your musical abilities and leadership capabilities.
