A Great Night for Area Students
Last night we had our annual Scholarship Celebration at Adams Point Conference Center. More than 160 people attended including students receiving scholarships and their parents, donors who have made these scholarships possible, and our board members and other volunteers who served on the committees who reviewed the applications. It’s always a fun event and our donors particularly enjoy having the opportunity to meet the students receiving their scholarship.

This year our Scholarship Committee was chaired again by Dr. Kirk Nooks, President of MCC-Longview. His 10-member committee reviewed 236 applications for 12 different scholarship programs. Other review committees for 71 other scholarships reviewed an additional 568 applications. We had a total of 804 applications and 224 scholarships have been awarded this year totaling $224,664. We are very fortunate to have generous donors who understand the value of education and the impact their scholarship can have on deserving students.

As you will see from the pictures, we had an Ice Cream Social with our event thanks to the sponsorship of Allen Lefko and Bank of Grain Valley, Blue Ridge Bank and Trust Co., David and Lydia Jeter Family Foundation, Clifford and Diane Jones Foundation, Dr. Kirk Nooks and MCC Longview, Raytown Quality Schools, and the Douglas G. and Helen Hatridge Family Foundation. We greatly appreciate their support of our Celebration. I also want to thank Rachael Watkins on our staff team who ably supports all of our scholarship programs. There are a lot of moving parts with 83 different scholarship programs and 178 volunteers engaged in reviewing applications. She does a great job managing and supporting this process. And congratulations to all 177 students who received scholarships! We wish you the best in your college experience.
