For the last 36 years, Truman Heartland Community Foundation has given donors with a passion for education the opportunity to support the students in our area. Many of our community’s citizens have taken the step to invest in education by creating a Scholarship Fund
through their Community Foundation, which allows them to award scholarships to students who they believe to be most deserving.
Each year our Scholarship Committee receives hundreds of applications from exceptional students across Eastern Jackson County and surrounding areas. This year board member Dr. Kirk Nooks led our Scholarship Committee as Chairman. The committee reviewed 300 applications for 15 scholarship funds and our Donor Directed Scholarship Committees reviewed over 500 applications. In total, more than 285 scholarships totaling $287,216 will be awarded this year.
Students who will receive scholarships through donors at Truman Heartland received notification and an invitation to attend our Scholarship Reception that will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at Adams Pointe Conference Center. We hold this event every year to give the students a chance to meet the scholarship donors who funded their scholarship through their fund at the Foundation. It is always a fun event, and our donors particularly enjoy having the opportunity to meet the students receiving their scholarships.
Each year the ask for scholarships is greater than the funds available for scholarships, and we are very fortunate to have generous donors who understand the value of education and the impact their scholarship can have on deserving students.
I’m always impressed by the quality of applicants we receive each year for our scholarship program. Today’s students are more ambitious, driven, and humble than ever before, and we are honored to recognize their achievements as they make their way into the next exciting phase in life. Your Community Foundation has helped facilitate more than $3.8 million in scholarships over the last 36 years to help our students in their journey through higher education, trade schools, and more. We are thrilled to continue our part in investing in the future of our students.
As always, I’d like to thank our staff and all of our committee members for their work in making this program a possibility. I’d also like to thank our scholarship fund holders and our sponsors for the event. Your generosity is what allows the Foundation to hold this event.
Finally, I would like to congratulate all 218 students who received scholarships! Your hard work and dedication impressed us all, and we are excited to see where life will take you next.
