Power of Community: Bringing Care to Local Families

Provided by Children’s Mercy Hospital

In 2012, the community came together to help Children’s Mercy build and open a state-of-the-art, outpatient facility to provide convenient access to world-class pediatric care for the children of Eastern Jackson County.

Since opening, Children’s Mercy East has become the provider of choice for families and referring physicians in Independence and the surrounding communities. In fact, demand far outpaced projections with a 213% increase in patient volumes and more than 76,000 visits each year. The Edward G. and Kathryn E. Mader Urgent Care Center is the busiest in the Children’s Mercy network. Unfortunately, this led to limited appointments and long wait times for kids and their families. To provide the care these children need, growth and expansion were clearly necessary.

This year, the community rallied behind Children’s Mercy once again as they embarked on an exciting expansion project to meet the growing needs of families in Eastern Jackson County.

Backed by a $1 million challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation, the project provides dedicated space on separate floors for urgent care and specialty clinic services, which currently share exam rooms on one floor. This means more appointment times, shorter wait times and families getting back to their normal routines faster.

There is still time to contribute to this important project and have your gift matched by the challenge grant. Because of local supporters like you, local families will have better access to the care they need right here in our community.
